Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025 as the successor to Nintendo Switch. It retains TV, tabletop and handheld play, using a dedicated dock for television output or a built-in stand when sharing its screen away from the TV.
A 7.9-inch 1080p LCD touch screen accompanies magnetically attached Joy-Con 2 controllers. Compatible games can use each controller for mouse-style input. An adjustable stand and USB-C ports on the top and bottom allow different setups. The system runs Switch 2 games and compatible physical or digital Nintendo Switch titles.
Backward compatibility does not cover every game or accessory, so consult Nintendo’s compatibility information for a specific title. Game-storage expansion requires microSD Express rather than ordinary microSD cards. The Japanese-language domestic model has different language and account restrictions from multilingual systems. Online features such as GameChat also have network, account and membership requirements.
The system has 256 GB of internal storage, with some space reserved for system use. Game-storage expansion requires microSD Express cards. Nintendo estimates approximately 2–6.5 hours of battery life, depending on the game and use. TV output supports up to 4K at 60 fps, or up to 120 fps at 1080p or 1440p; handheld and tabletop play use the 1080p screen. These are hardware capabilities, while actual resolution and frame rate depend on the game and display.
