About this game

Mario Kart World takes kart racing beyond individual circuits: the roads linking courses are part of the competition. Grand Prix combines points across four courses, while Knockout Tour sends racers along a continuous route with position checks. Arrive at a checkpoint outside the required places and your run ends there. Free Roam opens the same world to self-directed driving. Leave the organized races to explore grasslands, cities, open water and volcanic surroundings, activate P Switch missions, or stop to compose a photograph. Camera positioning, poses, effects and frames provide ways to record those detours. The choice is between following a competitive route and heading out to investigate the surrounding landscape.

9.3 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

A promising fit for racers who enjoy both elimination pressure and unhurried exploration.

Checkpoint elimination can make protecting your position matter throughout a Knockout Tour, rather than only at the finish. Free Roam offers a contrasting reason to drive, particularly for players who enjoy looking for missions and composing photographs.

Strengths

  • Connected roads can give a race the character of a journey between places.
  • Free driving, missions and photography could reward curiosity beyond competitive results.

Weaknesses

  • Players who want to finish every event may find checkpoint elimination an unwelcome interruption.

Who it is for: Players drawn to route-based competition who also enjoy exploring a racing game's surroundings.

Play notes: Online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
