About this game

Super Mario 3D All-Stars collects Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. In 64, enter paintings around Peach's castle and explore their worlds for Power Stars. Sunshine brings F.L.U.D.D.'s water-pump abilities into traversal, while Galaxy sends Mario between planets where gravity shapes the platforming. Across the collection, movement is something to practise: a side-somersault adds height, and the minus-button control display lets you check the available moves. Galaxy also offers a helper role for another player in Co-Star Mode. Outside the adventures, a music player gathers songs from all three games and can keep playing with the screen off.

Collected in series

Super Mario is Nintendo’s platform-adventure series, first launched in 1985. Mario and his friends leap through the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond, exploring colorful worlds and tackling playful challenges. Mushrooms, coins, pipes and surprising power-ups make every adventure full of discoveries.

8.8 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best approached as a chance to compare different kinds of Mario movement and exploration.

Painting worlds, water-pump traversal and gravity-based planets give the collection distinct spatial problems, which may appeal to players who enjoy adapting their movement. The separate music player adds a quieter way to engage with the games, while Galaxy's helper role offers only a limited form of shared play.

Strengths

  • The different traversal systems give players concrete contrasts to explore across the collection.
  • A screen-off music player lets the soundtracks stand apart from active play.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking shared adventures throughout the collection may find Galaxy-only helper play too narrow.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy practising 3D movement and comparing how different environments change platforming.

Play notes: Chinese is supported in the collection interface and control instructions; the three included games are not translated into Chinese.

Three separate adventures make this a suitable collection for choosing a particular movement style to practise, rather than expecting one continuous campaign.
