About this game
OCTOPATH TRAVELER begins with a choice of protagonist, each with a different reason to travel across Orsterra. You can recruit the other travelers and follow their stories, while using character-specific Path Actions in towns. Challenging a resident, stealing an item or enticing someone to follow you gives exploration a practical connection to who is in your party. Battles revolve around enemy weaknesses and resources accumulated over turns. Strike a weakness to reduce Shield Points and trigger Break, interrupting the enemy's actions; spend Boost Points to increase attack repetitions or strengthen an ability. Finding job shrines also lets travelers equip a secondary job, expanding the combinations available to your party. The journey is depicted through HD-2D scenery that combines pixel art with three-dimensional graphics and effects.
Collected in series
Octopath Traveler pairs HD-2D landscapes with personal journeys and turn-based battles built around enemy weaknesses and well-timed boosts. Meeting townspeople, choosing your route and assembling a party give those journeys their own rhythm.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A promising fit for players who enjoy planning a burst of damage and shaping a party around distinct roles.
Break and Boost suggest a battle rhythm built around preparation followed by a deliberate opening, rather than spending every resource immediately. Separate traveler stories and secondary jobs should particularly interest players who like choosing both their route and their party's capabilities.
Strengths
- Weakness targeting and saved Boost Points give patient players related decisions about when to interrupt and when to commit.
- Path Actions can make a party member's identity matter during town exploration as well as combat.
Who it is for: Players interested in turn-based resource planning, experimenting with job combinations and following several protagonists' journeys.
Play notes: Chinese text on an older copy requires the language update and the corresponding console language setting.
