About this game
Undertale follows a human who enters a world of monsters beneath the surface. Encounters offer a choice between attacking and finding a nonviolent response. Each opponent also brings its own pattern of attacks to dodge, so deciding how to treat someone and avoiding harm are separate parts of play. Character dialogue and humor accompany the journey, and your choices affect the story. Progress is therefore about more than defeating whoever stands ahead: it also involves deciding how to respond to the inhabitants you meet. Pixel-art presentation frames a role-playing adventure that places conversation, personal choices and active evasion alongside one another.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For players who want an RPG encounter to be a question about behavior as well as survival.
Nonviolent solutions give curiosity about opponents a practical role. Dodging attacks keeps those encounters active, so the appeal depends on enjoying both dialogue and real-time movement.
Strengths
- Peaceful resolutions offer a reason to consider each opponent beyond its threat.
- Story consequences give decisions significance beyond the immediate encounter.
Weaknesses
- Players seeking entirely menu-driven encounters may find the required dodging less comfortable.
Who it is for: Curious readers who enjoy character interactions and are willing to dodge attacks.
Play notes: The Australian Switch listing specifies English and Japanese; the Chinese editorial text here does not imply Chinese game-language support.
