About this game
As the Luminary, travel across Erdrea with companions, moving between cities and dungeons. Battles are turn-based: choose attacks, spells and abilities, or assign tactics to individual party members. Levelling provides skill points for a panel-based system, where opening one panel makes neighbouring choices available. Party development therefore involves deciding which abilities to pursue. The S edition adds stories centred on companions and an orchestral soundtrack option. You can experience the adventure in 3D or 2D pixel art, and adjust battle speed. Changing between visual modes is handled at a church or camp by choosing a story point already reached, rather than simply changing the view at your current position.
Collected in series
Dragon Quest builds fantasy journeys around visiting towns, exploring dungeons and growing stronger through battles. Its mainline adventures are known for turn-based decisions and heroic quests, while spin-offs take the same world of monsters and magic into other kinds of play.

A promising fit for players who value party planning, companion stories and a choice of visual styles.
Command battles and skill panels can reward players who enjoy shaping a party's options before choosing its actions. The companion episodes offer another narrative focus, while battle-speed adjustment gives players some control over how combat is presented.
Strengths
- Skill panels and individual tactics offer complementary ways to shape party roles.
- The choice of 3D or pixel art lets players approach the adventure through different visual traditions.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy turn-based party decisions and character-focused adventures, with an interest in either modern 3D or pixel-art presentation.
Play notes: Changing between 3D and 2D requires selecting a previously reached story point at a church or camp.
