Overview

River City is part of the Kunio-kun family of schoolyard brawls, comic rivalries and unruly sports games. Its street-fighting adventures let you punch, kick and grab weapons, with several entries adding shops and new moves to learn between fights. Representative games: Renegade (1986): The arcade starting point pits one fighter against gangs, with attacks aimed at enemies approaching from either side. River City Ransom (1989): Adds shopping and character growth to street brawling, letting food and purchased techniques make your fighters stronger. River City Girls (2019): Puts Misako and Kyoko in the lead, with combos, recruitable enemies and shops across six city regions. Suitable for: For players who like scrappy comedy, expressive characters and clearing a busy screen with a friend. The city adventures reward detours to shops as well as another attempt at a troublesome fight.
