About this game

River City Girls 2 combines street fighting with missions, side quests and routes through the city. Connect a normal hit with a jump to carry the fight into the air, or break an enemy's guard to create an opening. Some defeated opponents ask for mercy and can become assistants you summon into later fights. Leveling expands the attacks available to buy at the dojo, so developing a fighter also means choosing which new moves to purchase. Hideouts let you switch characters, while the city's branching routes and secret areas provide places to explore between objectives. Comic-book cutscenes carry the story, and you can fight alone or cooperate locally.

7.7 / 10Nintendo Switch

Suited to brawler fans who want combo practice to sit alongside character growth and city exploration.

Launches and guard breaks offer different ways to build an opening, while dojo purchases give progression a direct connection to your combat vocabulary. Missions, branching routes and hideouts should appeal most to players who enjoy organizing an adventure around their fights.

Strengths

  • Buying newly unlocked moves can give players a practical reason to revisit and develop a preferred fighter.
  • Recruiting former opponents adds an assistance choice beyond the active character's own attacks.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking an uninterrupted sequence of fights may find the visits to dojos and hideouts less appealing.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy learning combo routes, purchasing new attacks and exploring a city alone or with a local partner.

Play notes: The Switch version does not support one Joy-Con per player; its local-play instructions specify a Joy-Con L/R pair for each participant.
