About this game
Yoshi jumps, swallows enemies and throws eggs through side-scrolling courses made to look like boxes, paper cups and folded-paper creations. Eggs activate craft mechanisms as you make your way forward, while collecting enough Smiley Flowers opens access to new areas. Coins can also be spent on capsule-machine costumes that protect Yoshi from damage. Finishing a course opens another way to explore it: turn to its flip side and travel back toward the start while looking for Poochy Pups. For a different approach to the action, Mellow mode gives Yoshi wings. Local cooperative play also lets one Yoshi ride the other, dividing movement and attacking between the two players.
Collected in series
Yoshi’s games give Nintendo’s long-tongued companion room to lead, especially in platform adventures full of little discoveries. Flutter over a gap, swallow an enemy and aim an egg at something curious. Picture-book landscapes, yarn and cardboard change the scenery, while hidden paths and collectibles invite a second look beyond the goal.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For players who enjoy looking closely at a course as much as reaching its goal.
Flip-side visits can turn familiar scenery into a fresh search space, while the flower requirement gives collecting a place in progression. Riding another Yoshi offers a useful way for a local pair to divide responsibilities.
Strengths
- Reverse traversal gives a concrete reason to inspect a cleared course from another perspective.
- Shared movement and attacking can help a cooperative pair choose different responsibilities.
Weaknesses
- Players mainly interested in moving straight through new courses may be less drawn to reverse visits and collectible searches.
Who it is for: Players who like searching crafted scenery, collecting progression items or sharing platforming responsibilities with someone nearby.
