About this game
SteamWorld Dig 2 follows Dorothy, a steambot whose underground exploration combines digging with platforming. You cut through the earth with a pickaxe, search passages for treasure and deal with traps and enemies along the way. The stages use deliberately placed terrain and resources rather than randomly arranged mining areas. Progress changes how you move through that world. Hidden stations provide upgrades that let Dorothy break harder rock and reach new passages, while the Hookshot carries her across chasms and the Jet Engine takes her through caves. New equipment also gives you reasons to explore earlier areas again: an obstacle that once stopped your digging can become an opening into another part of the underground.
Collected in series
SteamWorld connects very different games through a world of steam-powered robots. Its branches range from underground mining and tactical shootouts to card battles and town building, each giving those mechanical characters a different kind of adventure.

A promising fit for explorers who enjoy earning new ways through a carefully arranged underground world.
Digging and equipment unlocks can make progress feel like a growing understanding of the map. The handcrafted layout gives revisiting old obstacles a different appeal from mining a newly generated world.
Strengths
- Traversal tools can turn an earlier barrier into a fresh route, giving upgrades a concrete purpose beyond combat.
- Combining digging, traps and enemies can reward attention to both the route and its immediate hazards.
Weaknesses
- Players who want unrestricted access from the outset may find the upgrade-gated routes constraining.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy platform exploration, tool-based progression and returning to places with new abilities.
Play notes: Some terrain remains inaccessible until Dorothy obtains the required upgrades.
