About this game

Mario and Cappy set out across different kingdoms to stop Bowser's wedding plans for Princess Peach. You explore three-dimensional spaces and collect Power Moons that power the Odyssey airship. Cappy's capture ability lets Mario control certain enemies, animals and objects, putting their capabilities to work as part of the journey. A captured long-legged plant can stretch upward to reach high places, giving you a concrete reason to examine what a creature can do. Exploration also involves noticing clues: some shimmering objects conceal Moons, while people you meet can offer hints or invite you to minigames. Local two-player play divides the adventure into distinct roles, with one player controlling Mario and the other Cappy.

9.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

For players who enjoy discovering what a borrowed ability makes possible.

Capture may turn curiosity about a creature into a new way to navigate a kingdom. Moon clues and conversations with inhabitants offer additional reasons to inspect surroundings, while local co-op gives Mario and Cappy separate responsibilities.

Strengths

  • Borrowed abilities can give environmental exploration a tangible problem-solving angle.
  • Visual Moon clues and character hints may reward players who like looking beyond their immediate route.

Weaknesses

  • Players wanting identical co-op roles may find the Mario-and-Cappy division less suitable.

Who it is for: Players interested in transformation-based movement, collectible clues and local cooperation with different roles.

Play notes: On Nintendo Switch, two-player play uses TV or tabletop mode; the second player controls Cappy.
