About this game
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance takes you into Da'at, a ruined counterpart of Tokyo. Talk to enemy demons to recruit allies, then combine demons through fusion to create new ones. In Press Turn battles, striking a weakness grants additional actions; enemies benefit from the same rule. Innate passive skills add another consideration when assembling a party, including effects tied to which demons fight together. The story begins with a choice between Canon of Creation, which follows the original game's narrative, and the new Canon of Vengeance. Exploration takes you through ruined buildings, deserts and geometric structures. Magatsu Rails connect parts of Da'at, providing shortcuts and access to hidden terrain.
Collected in series
Shin Megami Tensei is Atlus’s RPG series about supernatural upheaval and competing visions of the future. Demon negotiation and fusion shape your party, while exploration, difficult choices and weakness-based battles drive its mainline adventures.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Best approached as a party-building problem as much as a journey.
Extra actions from weaknesses make party composition consequential, especially because enemies can exploit the same rule. Recruitment, fusion and passive combinations should appeal to players who enjoy revising a team as much as choosing commands.
Strengths
- Fusion and party-dependent passives offer connected ways to rethink a team's capabilities.
- The opening story choice gives returning players a direct route into a different narrative.
Weaknesses
- Players who prefer to ignore defensive weaknesses may find the enemy's extra-action opportunities demanding.
Who it is for: RPG players who enjoy experimenting with demon combinations and planning around enemy affinities.
Play notes: A party's own weaknesses matter: the extra-action rule also benefits opponents.
