About this game

Super Mario Maker 2 puts the course layout in your hands. Place objects and enemies, choose a theme and game style, and combine familiar parts into challenges. An ON/OFF Switch can swap colored blocks or reverse conveyor belts, turning a simple interaction into a route or timing problem. Two players can also build together on one screen. Story Mode provides Nintendo-designed courses tied to rebuilding Princess Peach's castle. With the World Maker update installed, your own saved courses can be linked through a world map. Online sharing adds other players' creations to the activities available: membership is required to upload and access courses, while downloaded courses can be kept locally for later offline play.

Collected in series

Super Mario is Nintendo’s platform-adventure series, first launched in 1985. Mario and his friends leap through the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond, exploring colorful worlds and tackling playful challenges. Mushrooms, coins, pipes and surprising power-ups make every adventure full of discoveries.

9.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

For players who enjoy understanding a platforming challenge by designing one.

Switches that alter blocks or conveyor direction give course ideas concrete rules to build around. Nintendo's Story courses offer a separate playing path, while World Maker may appeal to creators who want individual stages to form a connected journey.

Strengths

  • Combining parts can let a creator explore how one rule changes movement through a course.
  • Story courses and the editor allow players to alternate between tackling challenges and inventing them.

Who it is for: Players interested in course design, rule-based platforming puzzles or sharing construction ideas with someone on the same screen.

Play notes: Online course sharing requires paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Local wireless play requires each player to have a console and a copy of the game.
