About this game
The Snowmads have frozen the Kongs' home island, sending the family on a side-scrolling journey to reclaim it. Run, roll and jump through stages, swing across gaps and explore underwater routes. Character-specific moves help uncover hidden items and exits, while collecting KONG letters opens additional stages beyond the immediate route forward. You can take on the adventure alone or cooperate with another player on one system. The Nintendo Switch release also includes Funky Mode, which adds health and lets you skip a stage to revisit later. Funky Kong brings his own movement options, including a double jump and temporary hover, changing how you approach the same platforming journey.
Collected in series
Donkey Kong stretches from arcade obstacle courses to jungle platforming and destructive 3D exploration. Jumping, hazards and hidden rewards connect adventures that give the famous ape very different roles and ways to interact with the world.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A potential fit for platforming players who enjoy hidden routes and a choice of assistance.
Movement abilities serving both traversal and secret hunting could make the islands rewarding to examine as well as cross. Funky Mode's added health, movement tools and stage skipping offer a different approach for players who want more room to continue the journey.
Strengths
- Character abilities give secret hunting a mechanical purpose beyond simply looking into corners.
- Additional stages unlocked through letters could give collecting a concrete goal beyond clearing the current level.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy side-scrolling movement, searching for alternate routes or sharing an adventure through local cooperation.
Play notes: The extra health and stage-skipping assistance described here belong to Funky Mode.
