About this game
Alefgard lies in ruins, and rebuilding it is your job. Explore its block-built landscapes, gather materials and turn them into crafted items. Shape towns of your own, rescue people who need help and defend the places you construct from monsters. The story gives these building activities a shared goal: restoring the shattered land. A separate free build mode opens after the first story chapter, providing another space for construction. This edition also adds a rideable Great Sabrecub to that mode. Collect dots and use its special workbench to create blocks and decorations based on the original Dragon Quest, bringing a different visual vocabulary to your buildings.
Collected in series
Dragon Quest builds fantasy journeys around visiting towns, exploring dungeons and growing stronger through battles. Its mainline adventures are known for turn-based decisions and heroic quests, while spin-offs take the same world of monsters and magic into other kinds of play.

For builders who want their creations to serve an adventure, town restoration offers a clear purpose.
Rebuilding and defending towns can make construction feel consequential to players who enjoy caring for a settlement. The separate free build mode offers a different focus, although its opening chapter requirement matters if you want to start with unrestricted creative goals.
Strengths
- Construction and town defence can give a self-made settlement both personal meaning and a practical role.
- The free build workbench's original Dragon Quest blocks may appeal to builders interested in recreating the series' visual motifs.
Weaknesses
- Players seeking free build immediately may find the first chapter access requirement an unwelcome preliminary step.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy gathering and crafting, but also want a story goal and towns to protect.
Play notes: The rideable Great Sabrecub and dot-based workbench additions belong to free build mode.
