About this game
Assassin's Creed Shadows takes you into an open world set in late Sengoku Japan. As Naoe, watch light and shadow, use sound to avoid detection, and enter enemy bases with a grappling hook and parkour. Yasuke approaches encounters through direct combat, with attacks, blocks and parries. Their different approaches are accompanied by separate skills, equipment and character progression. Beyond individual encounters, exploration feeds the search for targets. Build a spy network to gather information about locations and the people you are pursuing, while travelling through a world with changing weather and seasons. On Nintendo Switch 2, touchscreen navigation also covers menus, the map and the hideout.
Collected in series
Assassin’s Creed turns historical settings into places to climb, explore and infiltrate. The conflict between Assassins and Templars links its adventures, while individual games shift the emphasis between stealth, seafaring and character-building RPG systems.

Nintendo Switch 2AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A promising fit for players who enjoy choosing between careful infiltration and direct confrontation.
Naoe's use of light, sound and traversal makes observation a meaningful part of planning an approach, while Yasuke offers a combat-focused alternative. Separate character development and information gathering should particularly interest players who enjoy preparing a method as well as executing it.
Strengths
- The contrast between Naoe's infiltration tools and Yasuke's combat actions gives players distinct approaches to consider.
- A spy network can give exploration a purpose beyond simply moving to the next encounter.
Weaknesses
- Separate skill and equipment paths may feel like extra upkeep if you prefer concentrating on a single character build.
Who it is for: Players interested in stealth planning, character development and exploring a historical Japanese setting through complementary protagonists.
