About this game

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II follows Van Arkride's investigation of murders in the Calvard Republic. Battles let you move between field encounters and command combat. A perfect dodge creates a Cross Charge opportunity to swap in a party member for an attack; under the required conditions, striking a stunned enemy in command battle triggers a coordinated EX Chain. The story follows separate groups through selectable chapters, with the other chapter beginning after your first choice ends. Away from those perspectives, Märchen Garten lets available characters form a party and tackle mission-based virtual areas together. Exploration earns tokens for Mystic Cube rewards, including materials that strengthen crafts beyond the Garten itself, connecting this side activity to the party's wider development.

Collected in series

Trails follows connected groups of adventurers across Zemuria, where small local jobs gradually reveal larger political conflicts. Conversations and returning characters reward attention, while party battles revolve around turn order, Crafts and magical Arts, with later games also offering field action.

7.4 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for RPG players who want action timing to feed into party tactics.

Cross Charge and EX Chains can make a well-timed dodge part of a larger tactical sequence. Märchen Garten offers a separate place to assemble available characters and pursue upgrades that remain useful in the main adventure.

Strengths

  • Field timing and conditional command attacks encourage thinking across both battle formats.
  • Garten rewards connect optional party experimentation with craft development outside the dungeon.

Weaknesses

  • Players wanting to stay with a favorite group may dislike being moved to the other chapter after completing their first selection.

Who it is for: Players interested in hybrid combat, party combinations and a story told through different groups.

Play notes: Chapter selection chooses the order of perspectives; finishing the selected chapter automatically starts its counterpart.
