About this game

A planned rocket launch and a prophecy of Zemuria's end frame an adventure through Calvard with three protagonists. Combat moves between real-time field encounters and command battles. In the field, a filled Z.O.C. gauge lets you slow enemies; in command battles, full boost opens consecutive actions. Eligible characters can also spend boost gauge to transform through Awakening. Grim Garten provides another progression structure. Assemble a party from available combat members and move their avatars across a board-like stage. Defeating a domain's guardian opens further domains and services. Between choosing a party and deciding when to activate combat abilities, the game combines group preparation with decisions made during individual encounters.

Collected in series

Trails follows connected groups of adventurers across Zemuria, where small local jobs gradually reveal larger political conflicts. Conversations and returning characters reward attention, while party battles revolve around turn order, Crafts and magical Arts, with later games also offering field action.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

For RPG players who enjoy managing combat opportunities across both action and command systems.

Z.O.C. gives its gauge a clear purpose in each combat style, making activation timing a potentially rewarding decision. Grim Garten adds party selection and domain unlocks for players who want another structure in which to apply those battle plans.

Strengths

  • Field slowdown and consecutive command actions offer different ways to turn a prepared resource into an advantage.
  • Grim Garten gives custom party choices a progression loop with explicit guardian milestones.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking one uncomplicated combat routine may find the combination of field, command and boost rules demanding to learn.

Who it is for: Players who like mixing direct action with command decisions and experimenting with available party members.

Play notes: The US Nintendo Switch 2 listing specifies American English as its supported language.
