About this game
Monster Hunter Stories puts you alongside the monsters as a Rider. Search their dens for eggs, hatch new companions at the stables, and use riding abilities such as jumping or underground movement to explore. Battles proceed through commands, with Power, Speed and Technical attacks countering one another. Reading the opponent’s likely choice matters when attacks meet head-on. Building the Kinship Gauge opens access to skills, while the Rite of Channeling develops your companions’ abilities. Finding new monsters therefore connects exploration with the team you bring into battle. This returning first installment also adds full Japanese and English voices and a Museum for viewing artwork and listening to music.
Collected in series
Monster Hunter is Capcom’s franchise about encounters with extraordinary creatures. Its action games turn preparation, well-timed attacks and gathered materials into successful hunts and new equipment, while the Stories spin-offs explore companionship with monsters through turn-based adventures.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A compelling premise for players who prefer raising monsters and reading combat patterns to reflex-led action.
Attack relationships give observation a clear role in turn-based decisions. Because companions also contribute riding abilities, collecting them can serve exploration as well as battle preparation.
Strengths
- Monster recruitment connects new companions with practical exploration abilities.
- The attack triangle gives pattern-minded players a clear basis for planning.
Who it is for: Players interested in creature raising, command-based combat and choosing companions for more than their attacks.
Play notes: Local wireless battles require a separate console and game copy for each player.
