About this game

Monster Hunter Rise builds its progression around hunting monsters and forging equipment from the spoils. Head into landscapes inspired by ancient Japan, choose a weapon and bring the results of your hunts back into your equipment plans. Returning to the village also lets you change weapons and approach the next hunt differently. Wirebugs add movement through the air and weapon-specific Silkbind Attacks, while Wyvern Riding lets hunters take control of large monsters. A Palamute carries you across the terrain without draining your stamina. For learning the basics, the Basic Training Quest covers movement, riding and combat; the detailed map can filter icons to help locate the things you want to find.

9.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong conceptual fit for hunters motivated by equipment goals and movement-driven combat options.

Turning hunt spoils into equipment gives preparation and combat a connected purpose. Wirebug movement and Silkbind Attacks may particularly appeal to players who want to explore new ways of positioning and using a weapon.

Strengths

  • The hunt-to-forging loop gives equipment planning a concrete relationship with what you fight.
  • Wirebug movement and weapon-specific attacks offer different avenues for practicing a chosen combat approach.

Weaknesses

  • Players unmoved by gathering spoils for equipment may find the central progression less motivating.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy learning weapon behavior, planning equipment upgrades and using movement options during monster hunts.
