About this game
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate centres on hunting monsters and turning their materials into equipment. Before a hunt, choose a weapon type and combine it with a Hunting Style and Hunter Arts. Those choices shape more than your equipment: Valor Style puts health at risk for counterattacks, while Alchemy Style uses a barrel to produce special items, buffs or attacks. G Rank quests introduce monsters with new attacks and behaviours, giving hunters another set of threats to prepare for. The roster brings together returning and new monsters, and Prowler Mode offers the alternative of controlling a Felyne. You can also arrange cooperative hunts through local wireless play, with a separate game copy for each participant. The recurring decisions concern what to craft and which combat setup to take into the next hunt.
Collected in series
Monster Hunter is Capcom’s franchise about encounters with extraordinary creatures. Its action games turn preparation, well-timed attacks and gathered materials into successful hunts and new equipment, while the Stories spin-offs explore companionship with monsters through turn-based adventures.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A hunting game for players who enjoy refining a combat setup as much as choosing new equipment.
Weapon, Style and Art combinations should reward an interest in experimenting with how a hunter fights. G Rank's changed monster attacks give that preparation a further purpose, while the range of combinations may demand more deliberation than a player seeking one straightforward setup wants.
Strengths
- Valor and Alchemy offer contrasting priorities, which may help counter-focused and support-minded players find different roles.
- Crafting equipment from hunted monsters should give equipment-minded players a concrete reason to choose their next target.
Weaknesses
- Choosing a weapon, Style and Arts may feel like excessive preparation to players who want fewer build decisions.
Who it is for: Players who like studying combat options, pursuing crafted equipment and adjusting their approach to monster encounters.
Play notes: Local cooperative play uses separate systems and requires a game copy for each player; single-system play is solo.
