About this game

This package brings together remakes of Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II, with either adventure selectable from the start screen. In the first, a lone hero travels Alefgard to confront the Dragonlord. The second follows a party of related heroes, adding the Princess of Cannock as a companion in this remake and opening seas and rivers to exploration once you obtain a ship. Encounters use turn-based commands, letting you choose weapon attacks, spells and abilities. Scrolls offer another way to develop your options by teaching a new move to an eligible party member. An optional battle display identifies selected actions that exploit an enemy's weakness. Across both adventures, the HD-2D presentation combines pixel art with 3D environments while preserving their distinct solo and party structures.

Collected in series

Dragon Quest builds fantasy journeys around visiting towns, exploring dungeons and growing stronger through battles. Its mainline adventures are known for turn-based decisions and heroic quests, while spin-offs take the same world of monsters and magic into other kinds of play.

A thoughtful fit for players who enjoy command-based adventures with contrasting solo and party structures.

The move from a lone hero to a broader party can give the paired adventures different decision-making contexts. Scrolls and optional weakness indicators provide further tools for players who enjoy choosing abilities deliberately.

Strengths

  • Solo and party journeys can offer a useful contrast within the same package.
  • Scroll eligibility gives learning new abilities a concrete character-development decision.

Who it is for: Players who prefer turn-based decisions, exploring towns and dungeons, and seeing a connected adventure develop across different party structures.

Play notes: The separately sold Switch edition has no upgrade path to this edition, and saves cannot be shared between them. The physical Switch 2 game-key card requires an initial online download.
