About this game

Final Fantasy X follows Tidus as he accompanies summoner Yuna on a pilgrimage to free Spira from Sin’s repeated destruction. Growing the party and deciding how its members contribute to encounters sit alongside a story-driven journey through the world. Final Fantasy X-2 returns to Spira after the Eternal Calm. Yuna, Rikku and Paine investigate a mysterious image, with Dresspheres shaping character roles in an Active Time Battle system. Exploring each chapter offers opportunities to develop those roles. The collection brings these contrasting adventures together rather than turning them into one continuous combat system.

Collected in series

Final Fantasy is a role-playing series created by Square in 1987, built around fantastical journeys, memorable characters and growing stronger together. Most numbered entries introduce their own world and cast. From crystals and magic to cities where machinery meets fantasy, each adventure offers a different view.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster

Two worthwhile RPGs whose different rhythms matter more than the port’s modest additions.

This collection is compelling because the two games offer different ways to inhabit the same world. The first gives party growth a strong narrative direction, even though its early hours can feel interrupted by frequent scenes. The sequel shifts attention toward changing jobs and exploring what each chapter offers, creating a useful contrast rather than simply repeating the pilgrimage. Both provide substantial reasons to develop a party beyond reaching the next story event. Their age remains visible in animation, presentation transitions and some of the delivery, but age alone is not the problem; it is when those transitions break the rhythm of participation. Faster loading and optional convenience features help with returning to the adventure. Existing owners, however, must weigh the separate purchase and incompatible Switch save data against how much they want to begin again.

Strengths

  • Contrasting battle and growth systems in a shared setting.

Weaknesses

  • Early pacing interruptions and incompatible older Switch saves.

Who it is for: RPG players new to Spira, or returning fans willing to restart.

Play notes: July25 nativeSwitch2 review, patch unspecified. This is a separate edition; official notices say older Switch saves are incompatible. Optional boosters need not be enabled. No measured FPS claim.
