About this game
Dead Cells puts you in control of an experiment that inhabits corpses to explore and fight. Move through interconnected areas, choose branching routes and use different weapons, spells and evasive rolls against enemies. Exploration also leads to secret rooms and hidden passages. In the standard run structure, losing your host sends you back to the dungeon for another attempt. Some progress persists, including unlocked routes, abilities and access to weapons, so later runs can offer different options. Paths take you through settings such as a prison, ramparts and a graveyard. Custom Mode allows weapon and enemy selection, while Aspects provide additional play-style boosts.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For action players who enjoy learning through fresh attempts and changing their approach.
Different combat tools and branching routes may make a new attempt an opportunity to revise a plan. Persistent unlocks offer another reason to explore, though the standard restart loop still asks players to accept losing the current run.
Strengths
- Branching routes and retained unlocks may give experimentation a purpose beyond the immediate fight.
- Different weapon behaviors may appeal to players who enjoy adapting their combat approach.
Weaknesses
- Returning to the dungeon after a failed standard run may discourage players who want continuous forward progress.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy evasive action, exploring alternate routes and reconsidering a build after failure.
Play notes: This is the base-game scope; paid expansions are listed separately.
