About this game

Transistor is an action RPG about wielding an unfamiliar weapon through a futuristic city and pursuing its former owners. Encounters combine real-time fighting with Turn(), a planning mode that stops the surrounding action. You can survey the situation, decide your next actions and return to the fight. Configuring combinations of Functions changes the tools you bring into those encounters. The pursuit provides the story's direction, while weapon configuration and the use of planning shape your approach to combat. Hand-painted scenes accompany a soundtrack that changes with the action. After finishing the story, the Recursion option introduces procedural battles.

8.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who enjoy interrupting action to think and experimenting with ability combinations.

Turn() can make surveying a fight part of the action rather than a separate tactical layer. Function configuration gives that planning another purpose: testing how a different setup changes your approach.

Strengths

  • Stopping the action can give deliberate decision-makers room to assess an encounter.
  • Function combinations offer a concrete focus for experimenting with combat setups.

Weaknesses

  • The emphasis on configuring abilities may appeal less if you prefer a straightforward, largely unchanged setup.

Who it is for: Players interested in tactical action RPGs where preparation and decisions during a fight both matter.
