About this game

The Talos Principle places you inside a simulation of human ruins as an artificial intelligence. Progress comes through solving increasingly complex puzzles: divert drones, manipulate laser beams and use time replication. The world is nonlinear, letting you choose a path through its puzzle spaces rather than follow a single fixed route. Alongside those practical problems, you uncover clues and read archives about humanity, technology and civilization. The story asks you to devise theories and make up your own mind, giving the artificial protagonist's exploration a second, interpretive purpose. This Nintendo Switch Deluxe Edition includes the base game and Road to Gehenna, an expansion that adds its own narrative episodes.

8.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for players who enjoy solving spatial problems and interpreting philosophical science fiction.

Manipulating drones, beams and time offers concrete systems to reason about, while archives and clues invite a different kind of investigation. That combination may particularly appeal to players who want to build solutions and their own interpretation of the setting.

Strengths

  • Several manipulation systems could make testing relationships between objects more appealing than simply searching for an answer.
  • The artificial protagonist and human archives could give philosophical questions a tangible setting to investigate.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer a directly explained narrative may find forming their own theories less satisfying than receiving clear answers.

Who it is for: Players who like increasingly complex puzzles, choosing an exploration route and reflecting on questions about humanity and technology.
