About this game
Tetris® 99 puts your board into a simultaneous battle with 98 other players. Move and rotate falling Tetriminos to complete rows, while attacks from opponents send Garbage Blocks into your space. Multi-line clears launch attacks of your own, and clearing lines also reduces garbage waiting in the incoming-attack meter. You can target an individual opponent or switch automatic strategies to pursue vulnerable players, challenge badge holders, counter attackers or attack randomly. Defeating opponents earns badges that strengthen subsequent attacks. Their live miniature boards surround yours as the field narrows toward a sole survivor. Online battles require Nintendo Switch Online; offline CPU Battle and Marathon belong to separately purchased downloadable content.
Collected in series
Tetris is a falling-block puzzle series about fitting four-square pieces into complete horizontal lines. Rotate and place each piece while leaving room for the next; its many variations turn that simple task into everything from competitive pressure to an audiovisual journey.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
Competitive block stacking for players who enjoy managing opponents as well as their own board.
Switchable targets make an attack a tactical choice, while badges give knockouts consequences for later exchanges. That combination may appeal to puzzle players who want to read a changing contest alongside placing pieces.
Strengths
- Target selection creates meaningful choices about where to direct the same line-clearing skill.
- The incoming-attack meter gives defensive clears a visible purpose.
Weaknesses
- Opponent-generated garbage may frustrate players who prefer complete control over their board.
Who it is for: Players interested in competitive Tetris and switching between attacking vulnerable opponents and defending against incoming pressure.
Play notes: Online battles require Nintendo Switch Online. Offline CPU Battle and Marathon are part of separately purchased downloadable content.
