About this game

The rules in Baba Is You occupy space inside each level. You push and rearrange their blocks to change what the objects around you do, then use those changes to reach a solution. A rule change can turn your character into a rock or make grass dangerously hot. Even the goal can be changed. Moving a block therefore reshapes both the physical puzzle and the conditions under which it can be solved. The recurring task is to examine the available rules, alter their arrangement and work out how the resulting interactions help you finish the level.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

A distinctive fit for puzzle players who enjoy questioning the rules themselves.

Because the rules are movable objects, finding a solution can require changing the problem’s assumptions. The ability to alter both objects and the goal may appeal to players who enjoy testing logical possibilities rather than applying one fixed routine.

Strengths

  • Making rules into movable objects connects logical reasoning directly to actions within the puzzle.
  • Changing the goal as well as the obstacles can reward looking beyond an obvious route.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer stable rules may find it demanding to track a puzzle while also changing its conditions.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy logical experiments, unusual interactions and revisiting assumptions when a solution seems blocked.

A structure built around changing level rules may reward reconsidering an approach more than repeating a familiar solution pattern.
