About this game
Splatoon 2 gives ink a concrete objective: in Turf War, the team covering more ground wins. Teams of four have three minutes to paint territory and contest the other side. Choose among weapons such as Dualies, chargers and rollers, and switch between Inkling and squid forms as you play. Winning the mode means paying attention to the ground your team controls. Salmon Run changes the task from opposing another team to cooperating against Salmonids. Up to four players retrieve Golden Eggs from Boss Salmonids and carry them to a collection point; allied ink can revive an incapacitated teammate. The base game also includes a single-player campaign against Octarians. Territory battles, cooperative collection and the solo campaign give the ink-based action different objectives.
Collected in series
Splatoon is Nintendo’s action series where colorful ink is both a weapon and a way around the battlefield. Spray the ground, change form and swim through your team’s ink to move or hide; Turf War rewards the team that covers more ground, while other modes add their own objectives.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A team-action choice for players who enjoy territory objectives and cooperative roles.
Ground coverage makes Turf War a question of what the team controls, which can appeal to players who like contributing through objectives. Salmon Run's egg collection and revivals shift that focus toward helping teammates complete a shared task.
Strengths
- A territory-based win condition can reward players who enjoy prioritizing the team's objective.
- Golden Egg delivery and revivals give cooperative players different immediate responsibilities.
Who it is for: Players who like coordinated territory battles or cooperating to retrieve objectives and support teammates.
Play notes: Online play requires paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Local multiplayer requires a separate console and game copy for each player.
