About this game

Mario Tennis Aces adds an energy economy to tennis rallies. Keep the ball in play or perform Trick Shots to fill the gauge, then use Zone Shot to aim a powerful return or Zone Speed to reach a distant ball. Blocking a Zone Shot demands timing: a missed block damages the racket, and repeated damage can break it. Charging a shot also restricts movement until you cancel the charge. Adventure mode turns these skills toward missions, boss battles and courts with obstacles, while Mario's abilities improve along the way. For a different approach, Simple rules retain basic shots, and Swing mode lets you swing a Joy-Con like a racket. In Swing mode, the character moves toward the ball automatically, with stick movement also available.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for tennis players who enjoy weighing shot placement against energy and racket risk.

Energy abilities and damage-sensitive blocks can turn a rally into a series of tactical commitments. Simple rules provide a useful alternative when the appeal lies mainly in basic tennis exchanges.

Strengths

  • Energy can support both targeted attacks and reaching difficult returns, creating a concrete tactical choice.
  • Alternative rules and motion play offer distinct ways to approach the same sport.

Weaknesses

  • Under standard rules, racket damage adds a concern that may distract players interested mainly in conventional point play.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy tennis positioning with extra resource decisions, or want to alternate with simpler rules.

Play notes: Swing mode multiplayer uses TV mode; tabletop Swing mode is limited to a single player.
