About this game

Sonic Colors: Ultimate sends Sonic into Dr. Eggman's interstellar amusement park to rescue the captured Wisps. Stages shift between 3D movement and side-view action, while Wisp powers change how you cross obstacles. You can drill underground or use Jade Ghost to slip through walls toward another route or a hidden item. More park areas become available as the adventure advances, with settings that range from a sweets factory above the clouds to a parade of spacecraft. Collecting enough Red Star Rings opens races against Metal Sonic, adding a collection requirement to that speed challenge. Ultimate also includes remixed music, customizable button assignments and item-powered Tails rescues that return Sonic from a fall to a nearby platform.

Collected in series

Sonic the Hedgehog is SEGA’s action franchise starring its speedy blue hero. Running, jumping and learning the terrain connect adventures that range from side-scrolling courses to 3D stages and open islands, with different entries giving speed and exploration their own balance.

7.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best suited to players who like speed with reasons to inspect a route.

Wisp transformations make terrain something to read as well as race across, so players interested in movement variety have a clear hook. Metal Sonic races offer a further speed-focused goal, though reaching them also asks you to collect Red Star Rings.

Strengths

  • Drilling and wall traversal can reward attention to a stage's structure, giving exploration a practical role alongside speed.
  • Item-powered Tails rescues can make a missed platform less disruptive by preserving collected rings and avoiding a checkpoint return.

Weaknesses

  • Players interested only in racing Metal Sonic may find the Red Star Ring collection requirement an unwanted detour.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy switching movement abilities, searching for routes and pursuing an additional racing challenge.

Play notes: Tails rescues depend on dedicated items; the rescue system does not provide an unlimited safety net.
