About this game
Sonic Mania Plus builds its side-scrolling stages from both familiar Sonic locations and new designs. Sonic can charge a Drop Dash while airborne and accelerate on landing. Mighty instead has a downward Hammer Drop, while Ray can extend his Air Glide by adjusting his body angle. Encore Mode rearranges stage mechanisms and allows character changes during play, giving a different way to approach those spaces. Time Attack includes saved replays and ghost data for examining runs. Pixel graphics carry the presentation across the returning and original settings.

Sonic the Hedgehog is SEGA’s action franchise starring its speedy blue hero. Running, jumping and learning the terrain connect adventures that range from side-scrolling courses to 3D stages and open islands, with different entries giving speed and exploration their own balance.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For players who enjoy discovering how a different movement tool changes a familiar stage.
A landing dash, a downward strike and an adjustable glide invite different approaches to the same kind of terrain. Encore's rearranged mechanisms and character changes may particularly appeal to players who enjoy revising a route rather than simply seeing a new backdrop.
Strengths
- Mighty and Ray offer distinct spatial actions that can make character choice matter to how you approach a stage.
- Replays and ghost data provide tools for studying runs when route improvement is part of the appeal.
Weaknesses
- Encore remixes existing stage mechanisms, so it may offer less appeal to someone seeking an entirely new set of locations.
Who it is for: Players drawn to character movement, route experimentation and improving timed runs.
Play notes: The Encore Pack upgrades the original Sonic Mania to equivalent Plus gameplay content; physical package extras are a separate matter.
