About this game

Rogue Legacy follows a family of adventurers through procedurally generated castles. You navigate platforms, confront enemies and collect gold, then continue with a descendant when the current character dies. Different classes bring their own abilities, while inherited characters arrive with varied traits, so the next expedition begins with a different person to learn. Progress also takes place between lives. Spend collected gold on the manor to improve your successors' prospects, equip weapons and armour, and acquire movement options such as dashing and air jumping. Individual characters are lost, but investing in the family connects those attempts. The recurring task is to explore with the current heir while building advantages for whoever follows.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best suited to players who enjoy making another attempt with a different heir and a stronger family.

Manor upgrades can give unsuccessful expeditions a useful outcome, while changing castles and descendants ask players to adapt rather than repeat an identical route. That combination is likely to suit persistence-minded players more than those who want to keep one character throughout.

Strengths

  • Spending expedition gold on the manor can make a lost character feel like part of longer-term progress.
  • Different classes and changing castles provide concrete reasons to revise an approach.

Weaknesses

  • Repeatedly losing the current character may remain frustrating if permanent upgrades do not offset the feeling of starting again.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy platforming attempts, adapting to new character abilities and gradually improving a persistent upgrade system.
