About this game

An insider's tip brings journalist Miles Upshur to Mount Massive Asylum. Once inside, survival depends on escaping danger rather than fighting it. You move through the facility using stealth and parkour-inspired traversal, deciding when to stay hidden and when to run. Progress is built around getting past threats while pursuing the institution's secrets. Bundle of Terror pairs Outlast with Whistleblower. That expansion follows Waylon Park, the software engineer whose story begins before Miles's arrival, giving the same institution another viewpoint. Together, the included stories focus on people trying to survive what is happening inside Mount Massive, with evasion at the centre of the playable experience.

8.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

For horror players who want vulnerability expressed through escape and concealment.

Removing fighting as a solution makes movement and hiding the important responses to danger, which may suit players who enjoy feeling exposed. Whistleblower adds an insider's perspective, giving those interested in the asylum's story another reason to continue.

Strengths

  • The survival rule keeps decisions focused on evasion and finding a way past danger.
  • The included expansion approaches Mount Massive through a different protagonist.

Weaknesses

  • Players who enjoy retaliating against horror enemies may find the reliance on escape restrictive.

Who it is for: Players comfortable with graphic horror who prefer hiding and fleeing to combat.

Play notes: Contains extreme violence, nudity and strong language.
