About this game

Axiom Verge 2 follows Indra into an alternate Earth reached through a cargo lift in Antarctica. Its 2D exploration spans two connected worlds, with a nonlinear map that lets you choose where to investigate. Mountains, lakes, deserts and ruins form the setting for the search. New powers come from breaking special urns, and a compass points in their general direction as you draw closer. Mechanical enemies can be hacked for different effects, while a deployable drone brings its own abilities into play. The recurring decisions concern where to explore and which tools to experiment with along the way. Although it belongs to the same story as Axiom Verge, this is a separate adventure that can be played before or after the original.

8.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

An exploration-led adventure for players who enjoy testing tools and deciding where to investigate next.

The nonlinear map and directional compass suggest a journey built around investigation rather than simply following an exact destination marker. Hacking and the drone give curious players different systems to experiment with as they search for new powers.

Strengths

  • Hacking and a separately capable drone can make experimentation part of exploration.
  • A compass that gives a general direction may help focus a search while leaving room for investigation.

Weaknesses

  • The nonlinear structure may feel less comfortable if you prefer a clearly prescribed sequence of destinations.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy self-directed map exploration, discovering abilities and experimenting with unfamiliar systems.

Play notes: The compass offers a general direction toward nearby urns, so it is best approached as a search aid rather than an exact route.
