About this game
Cave Story+ follows a protagonist who wakes without memories and encounters the rabbit-like Mimiga, whose lives are threatened by the Doctor. You explore the world through platforming and shooting, passing through areas with enemies and boss encounters as the story unfolds. Most weapons can gain levels, increasing their damage or changing the way their attacks behave. Your decisions affect the story's development and lead toward different endings. Alongside Story Mode, challenge stages offer time-attack objectives. Story difficulty can be set to Easy, Original or Hard, and the soundtrack style is selectable. The adventure combines its shooting and exploration with visuals and audio shaped by the conventions of classic 16-bit games.
Collected in series
Cave Story centres on Studio Pixel's adventure of jumping, shooting and exploring a mysterious underground world. Its rabbit-like Mimiga also appear in a separate holiday spin-off built around sneaking and puzzles.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A plausible fit for players who want shooting and platforming tied to a branching adventure.
Weapon growth gives combat a changing set of tools, while consequential choices give the journey another focus beyond clearing obstacles. Time-attack challenges may also appeal to players who want to refine execution separately from following the story.
Strengths
- Weapon levels can change attack behavior, offering a reason to learn how individual weapons develop.
- Story choices and time-attack stages support different interests: following consequences and refining execution.
Who it is for: Players interested in action exploration, evolving weapons and discovering how decisions affect a story.
