About this game

Pick a plant or zombie character, aim at opponents, and take the battle into free-roam regions or online Turf Takeover. In the exploration areas, you complete quests and face bosses, gathering medals and opening more places to explore. Giddy Park, the PvE regions and Private Play can be used without an internet connection. The Complete Edition puts its unlocks inside play. Earn coins and spend them at Rux's store on characters, customization items and perks; collect prize bulbs to claim upgrades and costumes from Prize Maps. You can select those maps whenever you want. On Switch, motion aiming has adjustable settings, and touch input works in menus, including map zoom. Turf Takeover offers online battles with eight players on each side.

7.7 / 10Nintendo Switch

A collecting-minded shooter for players who want offline questing alongside online plant-versus-zombie battles.

Exploration rewards and online Turf Takeover suggest two reasons to return: building a collection and fighting other players. If costumes and upgrades matter to you, freely selectable Prize Maps give those goals a place alongside the shooting.

Strengths

  • Offline regions keep quest and boss objectives available when you want to play without a connection.
  • Choosing a Prize Map lets collectors direct their effort toward rewards that interest them.

Weaknesses

  • Single-system play is limited to one player, making this a poor fit for a group wanting to share one console.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy earning character customizations, exploring between fights and switching between solo goals and online team battles.

Play notes: Plan for a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership if you want to join the subscription-gated online battles.
