About this game

Ultimate Chicken Horse alternates between building a level together and attempting the obstacle course that results. Place platforms and hazards, then run and jump toward the flag. Reaching the goal when your friends cannot earns points, so the challenge is to obstruct their route without making your own impossible. The course develops through repeated rounds of construction and attempts, with more obstacles added as play continues. Cartoon animal characters take part in local or online matches. Beyond this recurring contest, you can create and share custom levels and adjust rules and game modes. The building choices and the subsequent platforming are connected: whatever you add becomes part of the course you must also navigate.

8.8 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong conceptual fit for groups who enjoy designing trouble for one another and then facing it themselves.

Because everyone must navigate the course they help build, a malicious placement also becomes a personal risk. The repeated construction cycle could make reading the group's choices as important as executing a jump.

Strengths

  • Building and platforming feed directly into each other, giving every obstacle a consequence for its creator.
  • Custom levels and adjustable rules offer room for groups that enjoy shaping their own contests.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer fixed courses may dislike having the route altered by opponents between attempts.

Who it is for: Friends who enjoy competitive platforming, improvised obstacle design and accepting the risks of their own traps.

Play notes: The hazards you place also become obstacles on your own route.

Repeated building and traversal can keep attention on how a shared course changes, rather than on progressing through an authored campaign.
