About this game
NIER is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Drakengard is a dark fantasy action series that pairs battles against crowds of soldiers with combat on dragonback. Cut through enemies with different weapons, then take to the air for a different kind of fight. Violent conflicts and unsettling characters give these adventures a bleak edge.
NieR tells intimate, unsettling stories in worlds marked by ruin. Its action RPGs combine weapon combat with unexpected changes of perspective and play style, while its mobile installment explores another side of the same universe through command-based battles.

Powerful musical and narrative expression asks patience with combat and repetition.
The original Western NIER builds its journey around a father trying to save his daughter. Conflicted companions and later changes in perspective give that premise considerable emotional force. Melee and magic alternate with projectile-heavy bosses, side-view sequences and even text adventure passages. These shifts are inventive, although ordinary weapon combat is less refined. Further endings make repetition meaningful, while optional errands and collection can weaken momentum. Layered vocal music and distinctive performances hold the experience together. On PS3, changing spells requires reassignment, and defensive actions share configurable slots with magic, adding practical friction. This is the 2010 father-protagonist release, not the Japanese Replicant or its later remake. It best suits players who value characters and expression enough to tolerate an uneven action framework.
Strengths
- Expressive music and performances
- Replay changes narrative understanding
Weaknesses
- Limited ordinary melee depth
- Spell configuration and errands interrupt momentum
Who it is for: Action RPG players prioritizing characters, music and shifting perspectives.
Play notes: This is the 2010 father version; learn spell assignments before pursuing optional collection.
