About this game
Metro - Last Light is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and story, case, or mission progress. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Metro blends first-person shooting, stealth and survival horror in the nuclear wasteland of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s fictional universe. Underground settlements and ruined landscapes make ammunition, clean air and the decision to stay hidden feel equally important.

PlayStation 3AI review

A powerful survival-shooter journey whose atmosphere exceeds the polish of the original PS3 build.
The original PlayStation 3 Metro: Last Light makes ammunition, money and clean air feel connected. Military-grade rounds can buy supplies or be fired in desperation, while gas-mask filters put a clock on exploration above ground. Darkness offers another choice: avoid human opponents instead of spending bullets. These systems make the journey more than a corridor shooter. Quiet metro settlements, ruined surface excursions and sudden fights alternate effectively, and many story moments remain in the first-person scene rather than stopping play for detached cutscenes. The resulting Moscow is tense and unusually coherent. Human opponents can behave inconsistently during stealth, however, and some routes that appear open prove to be invisible walls. Digital Foundry's launch-window comparison found that PS3 generally handled demanding combat more smoothly than Xbox 360 and used clearer cinematic video. It also documented lower internal resolution, texture pop-in, tearing and one companion pathfinding stall requiring a restart. Those are specific observations, not a generic penalty for older hardware. This score recommends the campaign while keeping technical usability below its storytelling. It covers the original 2013 PS3 edition, not Redux; later patch performance was not independently retested for this review.
Strengths
- Meaningful ammunition, filter and stealth decisions
- Excellent alternation of calm, dread and combat
- Immersive first-person storytelling and clearer PS3 video
Weaknesses
- Inconsistent human AI
- Occasional invisible exploration boundaries
- Launch-build pop-in, tearing and a reported pathfinding stall
Who it is for: Players seeking a story-led shooter with scarcity, stealth and horror atmosphere.
Play notes: Assesses the original PS3 edition with launch-window technical evidence; Redux and unverified later patches are excluded.
