About this game

The Saboteur is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and aiming and shooting. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Distinctive style and sabotage hampered by the PS3 review build’s instability.

The PS3 version of The Saboteur is appealing when finding a target, planting explosives and escaping. Practical perk rewards encourage different destructive actions. There is plenty beyond the main story, although missions sometimes favor a particular solution and close combat does not support delicate infiltration well. Exaggerated voices, licensed songs and changing city colors give the revenge adventure a strong identity. The important limitation is the European PS3 review build underlying this evaluation: repeated lockups, mission restarts and unstable performance interrupt progress. Those interruptions reduce the value of an otherwise entertaining sabotage loop. It suits players with a high tolerance for roughness. The score describes the December 2009 evidence and does not assume that every later build retains the same faults.

Strengths

  • Practical rewards for destruction
  • Distinctive audiovisual atmosphere

Weaknesses

  • Lockups increase replay burden
  • Rough infiltration and melee

Who it is for: Players who tolerate technical interruptions for stylized action.

Play notes: December 2009 European PS3 review build; later fixes are unverified.
