About this game

Nintendo Switch Sports turns Joy-Con movements into sporting actions. The updated collection includes tennis, bowling, badminton, volleyball, soccer, chambara, golf and basketball. In tennis, swinging earlier or later changes where the ball goes, making timing part of how you direct a rally. Choose matches with people on the same system or take the competition online. Online random matchmaking also awards points for avatar outfits and accessories, giving those matches a customization goal. Golf and basketball require free updates. Online play needs Nintendo Switch Online, and soccer’s Shoot-Out requires a Leg Strap. Golf offers a Shot Assist option for Play Locally and Play with Friends; Play Globally uses the Normal setting.

8.0 / 10Nintendo Switch

A natural fit for players who want physical gestures to shape friendly competition.

Tennis gives swing timing a tactical consequence, so moving the controller can involve more than simply mimicking a sport. Shared-system matches serve social play, while online customization rewards offer a separate reason to keep competing.

Strengths

  • Directional control through tennis timing gives gestures a clear gameplay purpose.
  • Local competition and online avatar rewards accommodate different motivations for playing.

Weaknesses

  • Golf players who rely on Shot Assist may find the switch to Normal in Play Globally less accommodating.

Who it is for: Households and friends interested in motion-controlled matches, plus players motivated by earning avatar items online.

Play notes: Golf and basketball need free updates. Online play requires Nintendo Switch Online, and soccer’s Shoot-Out needs a Leg Strap.

Because tennis shot direction depends on swing timing, learning a gesture’s consequences can become part of competitive decision-making.
