About this game
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe combines races through changing track orientations with decisions about when to use your items. You can carry two at once, while effects such as Boo's item theft can change what another racer has available. Courses take the racing underwater, into the air and upside-down through anti-gravity sections. Compete in Grand Prix speed classes, improve your course times in Time Trials, or switch to Balloon Battle and score by bursting opponents' balloons. The base game includes the Wii U game's courses and its downloadable tracks. Smart Steering helps keep the kart on course, auto-accelerate removes the need to hold the acceleration button, and up to four players can share one Switch.

AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A fit for groups that enjoy racing with tactical interruptions and room for assisted driving.
Two held items and effects such as theft can make adaptation matter alongside navigating the course. Different speed classes, Time Trials and Balloon Battle offer distinct ways to focus a session.
Strengths
- Steering and acceleration assistance can make participation more manageable for newcomers.
- Races, timed attempts and balloon battles give a shared session different objectives.
Weaknesses
- Item theft can disrupt a planned move, which may frustrate players who want results to depend only on driving.
Who it is for: Local groups with varied driving experience, and players who enjoy alternating competitive races with timed practice.
Play notes: The Booster Course Pass is additional content; the base game's inclusion of Wii U downloadable tracks does not include that later pass.
