About this game

HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED puts collectible vehicles on circuits set in environments such as a garage and skatepark. Drift and boost through races, maintaining enough speed to carry the car around loops. Alongside racing and building your vehicle collection, a livery editor lets you change how your cars look. The track editor extends that toy-building idea: bend and stretch orange pieces, add loops, boosters and obstacles, and incorporate objects from the surrounding environment. Share a finished circuit online or try tracks created by other players. Furnishings collected during the adventure decorate your own room for races, and local split-screen offers another way to compete with a friend.

7.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for players who want to race toy cars and also design the tracks they run on.

Loop traversal makes maintaining momentum a meaningful racing concern, while drifting and boost provide the main driving vocabulary. The editor could extend interest beyond competition by making track shape and environmental objects part of the player's own design work.

Strengths

  • Racing and circuit construction could reinforce each other: a player can think about track demands both as a driver and as a designer.
  • Vehicle liveries and room furnishings offer personal expression alongside the vehicle collection.

Weaknesses

  • The speed requirement on loops may frustrate players who prefer to explore a course slowly.

Who it is for: Players interested in toy-car collecting, momentum-based racing and building unusual circuits.

Play notes: Loops require sufficient speed; slowing down too far can make the car fall rather than continue around the track.
