About this game

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity brings the characters and world of Breath of the Wild into an action story around the Great Calamity. Choose fighters such as Link and Zelda, each with different attacks and abilities. Regular attacks form combos, and inserting a strong attack at a different point changes the move you perform. Certain powerful foes also signal opportunities to interrupt them with a matching rune. Between story missions, use the map to select optional combat challenges and supply materials to non-combat quests that strengthen characters. Progression and upgrades unlock longer combos, expanding the attack strings available to each fighter. The adventure also includes opportunities to control the Divine Beasts and attack groups of monsters on a different scale.

Collected in series

The Legend of Zelda is Nintendo’s action-adventure series, which began in 1986. Link’s journeys often bring him together with Princess Zelda and into conflict with Ganon in the land of Hyrule. Exploration, puzzles and combat lie at its heart, with a curious detour often leading to a new discovery.

8.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

For players who want to learn distinct Hyrule fighters through combos, counters and mission-based battles.

Changing where a combo ends and watching for rune prompts may give players reasons to look beyond repeating the same attack. Material-based upgrades and optional challenges should appeal to those who enjoy preparing a character between battles.

Strengths

  • Different character moves and variable combo finishers may reward learning a preferred fighter's attack patterns.
  • Battle materials connect mission activity to character development, giving optional challenges a practical role.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer self-directed wandering may find the emphasis on selected battles and upgrades less aligned with that preference.

Who it is for: Fans interested in playing Hyrule's characters who also enjoy combat systems, mission objectives and character upgrades.
