About this game
The Outer Worlds puts you in a colony-ship passenger's shoes as you awaken into a conspiracy threatening Halcyon. Explore settlements and space stations under corporate control, encounter competing factions and make choices that change how the story develops. Recruiting a crew also brings personal missions: companions have their own goals as well as distinct abilities. Character building includes an unusual voluntary bargain. The Raptiphobia flaw, for example, gives you an additional perk while imposing a penalty against the creatures it concerns. Deciding whether that disadvantage fits your character sits alongside deciding whose goals to support as you travel through the colony.
Collected in series
The Outer Worlds is Obsidian’s science-fiction RPG series about finding your way through societies shaped by corporate power. First-person exploration, conversations and combat let you decide who to trust and how to handle competing demands.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A promising fit for players who want character-building compromises to accompany their story decisions.
Companion goals give story choices a personal focus, while optional flaws introduce a different kind of commitment to character building. These designs should appeal most when you enjoy weighing consequences rather than pursuing every available bonus.
Strengths
- Personal companion missions can give exploration a purpose beyond reaching the next settlement.
- A creature-specific flaw makes an extra perk a decision about your intended build.
Weaknesses
- A penalty against particular creatures can complicate a build intended to fight them.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy choosing allegiances, supporting companion goals and accepting deliberate character limitations.
Play notes: Weigh the example fear flaw against the encounters you want your character to handle.
