About this game

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered takes you across Cyrodiil to oppose a Daedric invasion. Explore ancient ruins, use swordcraft or magic in combat and talk to people about rumors to uncover quests beyond the main story. Skills improve through use, so exploration also contributes to your character's development. You decide when to pursue the central threat and when to follow another lead. The remaster retains Oblivion's underlying gameplay and world logic while recreating visual assets and adding sprinting. Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine are included in the Standard Edition. On Nintendo Switch 2, optional Joy-Con 2 motion controls distinguish standard and power attacks through different swings; motion inputs can also be swapped between hands.

Collected in series

The Elder Scrolls invites you to make your own way through Tamriel, choosing how to fight, which quests to follow and where to wander next. Its fantasy RPGs pair character development with discoveries across different lands, while an online branch opens the world to shared adventures.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

A promising fit for players who prefer following discoveries to keeping a fixed itinerary.

Rumor-led quests and skills that grow through use give wandering a role in both storytelling and character development. For players comfortable choosing their own direction, this structure can make a detour feel as worthwhile as advancing the main quest.

Strengths

  • Conversations can turn exploration into new quest leads rather than a purely geographical exercise.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking a tightly directed main story may find the choice of unrelated side quests distracting.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy investigating NPC rumors, developing skills through activity and deciding their own order of exploration.
