About this game

Ryza and her friends reunite on Kurken Island for an adventure built around exploration, gathering, synthesis and real-time battles. At the cauldron, matching ingredients to Material Loops unlocks item effects. Secret Keys, created at landmarks or from enemies, add another layer of choice: their effects determine how they can help with crafting, fighting or exploration. DX expands this journey with Clifford, Serri and Kilo as playable characters, plus an additional story explored as Serri. A Wind Beast can automatically gather ingredients, while adjustments to the enlarged minimap change how it displays your position and surroundings. The result is an edition focused on extending the existing adventure and its interlocking systems, rather than treating alchemy as a separate diversion.

Collected in series

Atelier is an RPG series where gathering ingredients and making useful items are central to the adventure. A better recipe can prepare you for the next outing, while friendships and each alchemist’s goals give you reasons to return to the workshop.

8.4 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

Best suited to players who enjoy making exploration feed into increasingly deliberate alchemy choices.

Material Loops and keys can turn ingredient gathering into preparation for specific crafting decisions. DX's additional characters and Serri-led story offer further reasons to revisit that loop, especially for players already invested in Ryza's companions.

Strengths

  • Keys can connect discoveries in the field to choices in synthesis and combat.
  • The added Serri-led story offers another character's perspective within the expanded adventure.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking mostly combat may find the repeated return to gathering and recipe decisions less appealing.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy experimenting with ingredients and item effects, or who want more adventures with Ryza's supporting cast.

Play notes: Original Ryza 3 saves do not transfer to DX, and the Switch and Switch 2 DX versions cannot transfer saves between them.
