About this game
Cloud and his companions leave Midgar to pursue Sephiroth across the planet in the second game of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake trilogy. You travel through regions with different environments, using local chocobos' traversal abilities to negotiate their terrain. Minigames sit alongside the central journey and its battles. Combat connects direct attacks to command decisions: normal attacks build ATB, which you spend on abilities and spells. Opening the command menu slows time, giving you space to choose an action, and you can switch the character under your control. Using abilities also builds the gauge for paired synergy attacks, linking individual actions to cooperation between party members.
Collected in series
Final Fantasy is a role-playing series created by Square in 1987, built around fantastical journeys, memorable characters and growing stronger together. Most numbered entries introduce their own world and cast. From crystals and magic to cities where machinery meets fantasy, each adventure offers a different view.

Nintendo Switch 2AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A strong conceptual fit for players who want party tactics within an exploratory RPG journey.
ATB spending and character switching can reward attention to the whole party rather than a single fighter. Regional traversal and minigames offer changes of activity, although their appeal depends on how much you enjoy stepping away from combat.
Strengths
- Slowed command selection can give tactical decisions room within action combat.
- Paired attacks can make individual ability use feel connected to team coordination.
Weaknesses
- Players seeking a combat-focused route may find the range of exploratory diversions less appealing.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy choosing party actions, coordinating characters and exploring between story encounters.
Play notes: This is the middle installment of the remake trilogy.
