About this game

Asbel's childhood promises frame a journey through the conflicts of Ephinea. In combat, you switch fighting styles to change attack reach and power, spend Chain Capacity to string artes together, and use directional evasive steps to seek a counterattack. Equipping titles provides another form of progression: battling develops them and unlocks skills, artes or improvements to character stats. The remaster includes the Lineage and Legacies story after the main scenario. It also offers an encounter toggle for field and dungeon enemies, although certain event battles remain mandatory. Autosave and customizable field and battle buttons accompany these changes, giving you options for managing the journey and its controls.

Collected in series

Tales is a fantasy RPG series that combines journeys with memorable companions and action-based party battles. Explore towns and landscapes, then use attacks, spells and special techniques to fight alongside your team. Different entries introduce new worlds and combat systems, keeping both the party’s relationships and its teamwork at the center.

7.8 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best aligned with players who enjoy refining evasions, attack chains and character growth together.

Style switching and Chain Capacity could make each opening a small planning problem: choose the right reach, then decide how to spend the available chain. Title progression gives repeated battles a separate development purpose, while encounter options let story-focused players reduce incidental interruptions.

Strengths

  • Style changes and evasive steps offer complementary ways to shape an attack opening.
  • Equipped titles connect battle participation to new character abilities.

Who it is for: Action RPG players who enjoy practicing combat decisions while choosing how their party develops.

Play notes: Turning encounters off does not remove certain event battles.
